April in 2015 John Riccardo decided to open his own customs brokerage and distribution company. It was the support of importers, his family and friends that helped make the decision easy. Starting as a sole proprietor he worked feverishly to develop a business that would provide a very personalized service at an affordable price.
Having previously developed and tested a business structure that allows for flexibility and efficiency while keeping focused on customs compliance, John C. Riccardo decided this would be their model. Shipments are cleared by experienced licensed brokers who are also the clients direct point of contact, no more back and forth with receptionist and customer service personnel. Clients should not feel like a number when they call, our staff is experienced and knowledgeable and ready to assist.
Your success is ours and every shipment is important no matter the size. Smaller importers get the same service and resources offered to the larger companies. We are able to provide a very personalized service because as a family owned and operated company we are not limited by cumbersome corporate policies or approval processes and use the most advanced technology. John C. Riccardo began his logistics career in 1985 at JFK International Airport. As the chief officer of John C Riccardo, CHB, He brings his experience and expertise of over 30 years in the industry, bringing his previous expertise to each new endeavor. In the beginning of John’s career, he worked in a warehouse for a domestic airline.
He was building pallets, loading trucks and airplanes, and using equipment such as forklifts, conveyers, FMC pay loaders, and pallet jacks. He quickly moved up and was promoted to warehouse lead agent within the first year.
There he supervised the loading and unloading of airplanes and trucks. He was responsible for the shipping and receiving of general and hazardous material shipments. In addition, he oversaw the staging and labeling of in-bound cargo and airline transferring of cargo destined for export.
Soon John focused his logistics career in the direction of delivery and distribution by working with an inter-line carrier. Here he negotiated with trucking companies and made delivery arrangements. He arranged the in-bond movements for airlines who needed their freight moved from one airport to another. He prepared the documents, manifested consolidated trailers and processed the delivery orders. He would meet the drivers at airlines to facilitate pick up and supervise loading.
From there John looked toward a different part of the logistics business and worked as a freight forwarder at Boston’s Logan International Airport. He prepared documentation and made arrangements for imported cargo. John later became a part of the accounts payable and receivable team and was successful in collections and reconciliations. He later joined the sales department coordinating sales in the Asia, India, and European markets. His sales responsibilities included rate negotiation, international communications, and client relations. John next moved toward the brokerage segment of the International cargo transportation industry at JFK International Airport in New York. He worked as an entry writer doing entry preparation and product HTS classification for a variety of imported merchandise including garments, machine parts, food products, and home furnishings. John consistently used all of his acquired knowledge of the industry to push him forward through the years. John took a Brokerage class and studied diligently for months to earn his customs brokerage license in 2000.
Always seeking knowledge, John was quick to take on the most challenging entry work. He was asked to join the compliance team thereby further expanding his abilities by including services such as drawbacks and C-TPAT certifications. John built a relationship with Customs and other government agencies through participation within The JFK Airport Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association and the Long Island Import and Export Association. He researched and processed ADD/CVD entries and filed anti-disbursement letters with U.S. Customs. He resolved release issues with other government agencies such as FDA, USDA, FWS, DOT, and EPA. Due again to John’s drive for success and growth he was promoted to Brokerage Manager and tasked with the restructuring of the entire brokerage department. He had huge success with this because he was able to personalize and custom tailor services for each individual client’s specific wants and needs.
John has developed a reputation for efficiency and reliability. Most importantly, John maintains a strong rapport with his clients built on courtesy and respect. He believes a good reputation is measured by the relationships he builds with his business associates.
